Alexa, Turn on the Lights

Tuesday
1:00 – 2:00 pm

Grand Ballroom 8A
Convention Level

The home modification world has revolutionized the meaning of accessibility with the introduction of technology products such as Amazon’s Alexa or Google’s Nest thermostat. What does this have to do with workers’ compensation? Everything, when it comes to catastrophic cases that require home modifications. Imagine a paraplegic being able to come home and say “Alexa, turn on the lights” without having to maneuver to get to a light switch. This technology provides the injured worker an entirely new type of independence and possibly reduces the need for an in-home aide. Join us for this session as we learn about how technology is transforming home modifications, thus leading to cost containment and a better quality of life for injured workers.
