Advances in Opioid Free Surgery and Rehabilitation
The opioid crisis has necessitated a critical review of current anesthesia and surgical strategies around the need to prioritize the use of multi-modal non-opioid pain management during and following surgical procedures. Dr. Sabesan will review current literature on alternatives to opioids in the intraoperative and post-surgical rehabilitation setting. What methods are being used to educate clinicians and patients as we move toward decreasing reliance on medications that have a stronger addictive profile? Learn treatment recommendations that will become more common in the workers’ compensation arena with the reduced reliance on opioids and the implications for assisting injured workers with return-to-work and duty modifications.

Hip Arthroscopy
Hip arthroscopy has been performed for many years, but is not as common as knee or shoulder arthroscopy. This surgical procedure allows doctors to view the hip joint without making a large incision through the skin and other soft tissues which enables the surgeon to diagnose and treat a wide range of hip problems. Dr. Ashberg will review common applications for hip arthroscopy in the workers’ compensation arena. What are the most common symptoms or ailments that indicate the appropriate use of hip arthroscopy? What are the long-term expectations for rehabilitation and recovery?
