When tragedy strikes the workplace, employers face both the obvious human loss and increased exposure to immense financial loss. The aftermath of random shooting situations (active shooters) and workplace violence incidents produce multiple tangible and intangible costs. Effective pre-event education can significantly mitigate loss of life and liability exposure by facilitating individual and organizational resilience after workplace tragedies. Risk assessments can be used in a variety of management systems at all levels of an organization.
