Risk Management Topics of Interest for 2019 and Beyond

2:15 – 3:15 pm

Grand Ballroom 7A

Risk management is continuing to expand, encompass and potentially embrace areas that in the past would have clearly belonged elsewhere. We must operate in a domain well beyond what was seen 20, 10, or even 5 years ago. The medical environment is rapidly changing. Consider the concerns over opioids, the role of marijuana as appropriate drug therapy, the value of the office visit versus the convenience of telemedicine, as well as many other aspects of medical support for injured workers. Additionally, the role of the employee is no longer as clearly defined as in the past and consideration must be given to new concepts, work stations, and work environments. Further, how great a role should technology, from analytics to artificial intelligence, play within the workplace to ensure positive outcomes for an individual claim. The entire process culminates with the question of how all this new information and perception impacts the reputation of the company, its employees, its customers/clients, and society in general. These and other points will be considered by the panel of risk managers as to their approach within their respective companies.
