Mediating with an Interpreter – How to Avoid Potential Ethical, Procedural, and Cultural Pitfalls! (Breakout Session 4B)

1:20 – 2:20 pm

Grand Ballroom 8B
Convention Level

Mediating with an interpreter is a natural consequence of Florida’s multicultural society. Mediators should be aware of the proper techniques to avoid ethical, procedural, and cultural difficulties when using an interpreter in mediation. The presenter, an experienced multi-lingual mediator, will discuss steps for a mediator to follow to protect neutrality, confidentiality, and self-determination of the parties when an interpreter becomes a participant in the mediation process.
